Imparting the Knowledge of Homeopathy Understandably

The Center for Classical Homeopathy (CKH) has given itself the task of imparting a knowledge of homeopathy clearly and understandably. This health-bringing method should now – after 200 years – finally find application on a large scale through becoming comprehensible and thereby practical.

We call our method, which combines homeopathy, psychology and an understanding of the language of symptoms, of the meaning of the remedies, and of body language ... Creative Homeopathy.

Antonie Peppler has been using this method in her homeopathic practice with great success for many years already. She passes her competence on to the students of the Center.

Let us exemplify the nature of Creative Homeopathy with a case study.

Hay Fever, Asthma and Iodine Deficiency

Patient: Beate M., 15 years old

Four years ago an unimposing, very shy young lady, Beate M., came to my practice without accompaniment. Beate related how in the spring of the previous year she had developed a goiter and the examination uncovered a severe iodine deficiency.

The goiter appeared suddenly and grew very quickly. Since this time, Beate has regularly taken iodine supplements. Three months after the goiter appeared she also developed an intense hay fever that was linked to attacks of asthma. The hay fever began in June and ended the middle of September. Nothing helped.

At the beginning of the next hay fever season Beate was in my practice and telling me her symptoms. First I attempted to discover why the goiter and the hay fever with its asthma had come so suddenly.

Unfortunately, from Beate’s information no cause could be found. From the sparsely filled in questionnaire, I learned that she had had the children’s diseases measles, scarlet fever, croup, mumps, German measles, and chickenpox. She listed the vaccinations measles, diphtheria, croup, German measles, tetanus and polio. She had often had cases of Herpes labialis.

A number of years ago the wisdom teeth came in and had to be surgically removed. She had often had bronchitis between the ages of five and seven. It was clear that she tends to the hot side and sweats easier than freezes. As preferences for foodstuffs, she listed: desire for salad, desire for tea. She loves pasta and baked goods a lot. She did not list any aversions to foodstuffs.

Because there were no real reasons for her situation to be found in the symptoms, I attempted to entice a few typical hay fever symptoms out of Beate. The only thing that was striking was that the hay fever was connected with a swollen upper eyelid on the right eye. The upper right eyelid was always decidedly more swollen than the left and also itched. The left lid also itched a bit, but considerably less.

After a lengthy verbal anamnesis that did not lead anywhere in particular, I decided to create a repertorization and interpret the individual symptoms.

Symptom Psychological Significance
Hay fever and related asthma the creative potential cannot flow freely, there is an occupation and a suppression of potential at work here
Swelling of the upper lid of the right eye not allowed to or does not want to see an emotionally stressful situation
Goiter does not feel loved and respected and therefore seeks recognition and power
Misuse of Iodine the feeling of not being loved and respected is suppressed
Itching of the eyelids a demand that one open the eyes and look
Bronchitis conflict and tension in the surroundings that is not fought out
Herpes of the lips angry about something, but doesn’t express it
Ailments after the removal of the wisdom teeth has difficulty in activating additional energies and reserves of aggression that are needed for the resolution of demanding problems
Desire for salad desires fresh, active energy
Desire for tea wants to free herself from confinement and limitation
Desire for pasta wants to secure her basic needs
Desire for baked goods, cake, etc. wants a more luxurious existence

In the interpretation of these symptoms, it became clear to me that due to some sudden happening, Beate no longer felt loved and respected and therefore could not let out or live out her potential.

She desired security as well as strength in order to be able to have a more pleasant life.

In the repertorization, the symptom “swelling of the upper eyelids, right” was absolutely the most important one. This was covered by the remedies Causticum, Phosphorus and Natrum carbonicum.

Taken together, these remedies mean that a person has been emotionally wounded (caust), has withdrawn, that the emotional wound has gone on unresolved for a longer period of time (phos) and that he could neither become one with his surroundings nor could he separate himself from them (nat-c).

This was another clue that led me to ask about a markedly traumatic experience. I did in fact find the cause when I went into the family background, which up to this point I had not done.
Beate related that asthma as well as suicide was prevalent in one side of the family. One aunt had asthma, but this issue was not important for finding a cause, but with suicide I had struck gold.

Beate had had a very close relationship with her grandmother, who very suddenly and for everyone very unexpectedly had thrown herself out of a window. This occurred shortly before Christmas in the year preceding the year that Beate developed the goiter and came down with hay fever.

In the conversation about her grandmother, Beate showed emotions for the very first time and said with tear in her eyes that she could in no way understand why her grandmother had committed suicide. They had had such a close understanding and, if she had had problems, she could have told her about them.

Beate had always had the feeling that her grandmother had had a special liking for her. It was terrible for her that she had not been able to help her. Reading between the lines, I could see that Beate felt guilty for her grandmother’s suicide.

This one issue was the key to understanding the rest of the analysis. First I added the symptom “ailments through the death of relatives” and then the repertorization yielded the following results:

  • Calcium carbonicum stood in first place purely from the numerical calculation. This remedy means that a person does not feel safe enough to deal with life by himself.

  • In second place stood the most incisive remedy: Causticum, a remedy that points to severe shock that someone has had and which forms the reason why he withdraws and no longer trusts himself to express his emotions openly.

  • Next came Hepar sulphuris: the need to want to change others in order to increase one’s own security. People who have very different characters often have difficulty getting along with each other. The only possibility that this person sees to feel strong in a group is to so change the others that everyone has the same feelings.

  • Lachesis muta, the suppression of one’s own personality due to a traumatic situation.

  • Natrum muriaticum, holding one’s breath. There is a situation that has absolutely not been dealt with and which blocks the future.

  • Then came Nux vomica, which means that a person absolutely does not want to divulge his feelings and hides them under a hectic pace and distraction.

  • Next was Phosphorus, which means that a person has been in a stressful situation for a relatively long time.

  • Pulsatilla, not feeling up to a situation, prefers to stick her head in the sand than confront the situation.

  • Silica, the feelings are cut off due to an emotional shock. The patient has decided to see his life only from a rational perspective so that he no longer has to encounter his feelings.

  • Then came Spongia, with this remedy too the feelings are pushed aside. The patient attempts to become inconspicuous in order to find protection in a group.

And so on…

Just from the remedies described above it is clear that Beate tends to feel alone in the midst of her family and that her grandmother was apparently the most important and perhaps the only person with whom Beate related.

Through the death of her grandmother, Beate’s destiny is challenging her to stand on her own two feet and to accept her own personality to the degree that she is able to meet life’s demands.
Through the shock, however, the opposite has happened. She now tries to conform to others in a group, to make herself small and inconspicuous in order to survive. The homeopathic treatment must give her the strength to live and exist by herself according to her own nature.

In order that this could be accomplished for the long run, I chose the following homeopathic remedies for Beate:

  • Causticum, so that she could reconnect to her feelings.

  • Natrum muriaticum, so that she could overcome her sorrow.

  • Natrum carbonicum, so that she could step out of the need to conform. Spongia and China are also related to this issue.

  • Iodum, on the one side in order to balance out the supplements and on the other so that she learns self-love and self-respect.

  • Carbo vegetabilis, so that she can use her own emotions and feelings and power for her own purposes and not lose them in battle with others.

  • Alumina, the most important remedy for helping her to establish her own stance in life and not just stay an emotional extension of the grandmother.

The remedies given together in a potency of C 50,000 twice daily resulted in the dissolution of the beginning hay fever attacks in the year of the treatment.

The Iodine supplement (Jodthryox 100) was continued for 14 days concurrent with the homeopathic remedies. After that it was reduced by one half each week and finally stopped after three weeks.

In August Beate had one more short hay fever attack for which I prescribed Phosphorus as well as Pulsatilla. These were added to the combination remedy. The hay fever disappeared immediately.

Since this time Beate has been free of hay fever and no longer needs to take iodine supplements. The goiter has receded. It is now 4 years since Beate has had a hay fever attack.
